Forty racers lined up to compete for victory in almost ideal weather conditions for the second annual Barry Wolfe Memorial Track Races presented by Auzzie Track Club and BT Bicycles. Big shout out to Dale Goodman for his continued support of Encino Racing and the Barry Wolfe Memorial, in particular. And if you're in the market for a track frame, check out BT's new aluminum frame. It's suh-weet! Remember, support our sponsors. http://www.usauzziesales.com/
Thanks also to Bahati Racing (coaching, nutrition, merchandising (www.bahatiracing.com) for contributing additional primes to the Junior racers. As always, thanks to the AAF and Encino Velo for supporting our junior and youth racing, Remember, it's FREE to race in category for juniors and youth!
And finally, a hearty thanks to our support crew, without whom we could not hold these races:
* Emergency Medical Support: Donna and Harvey Stone
* Officials: Bob Pelegrin, Greg Aden and David Bruno
* Concession stand: Marjorie and Scott Blietz (remember, all profit goes to the benefit the velodrome!)
We were pleased to welcome a small but talented field for the P/1/2/3's, which included talent from from the young Rahsaan Bahati (TIAA-CREF) to the everstrong masters racer Butch Stinton (Acme Racing) and Gibby Hatton (SBW). Newly upgraded Aron Gadhia (Kahala-La Grange) was in the mix throughout the night. Juniors Catherine Fiedler (Home Depot Center), Kit Karzen (VRC-MS Society), and Morgan Ryan (Scary Fast) showed their competitive spirit by pitting themselves against such a strong field.
We enjoyed an unusually strong turnout among the Women with 7 racers attending. We would LOVE to provide Women's A and B fields but need a minimum of 6 riders for each field. Let's work on getting more women out so we can split the field. And remember, we always pay the full prize list to women's fields. No trimming back if the field is small. Come race Encino!
It was a lighter than expected turnout among the Juniors, given that Junior States is next weekend. Those who raced will have an advantage over those who didn't.
If you haven't raced at the Encino Velodrome in 2006, please come join us! We have plenty of races on the calendar and strive to provide a quality racing experience with cash prize money whenever possible. The quality of the racing is determined by YOU. Come on out!
