Busy times at the Encino concrete velodrome. We have done a good deal of repairs to the track surface in the past month or two, smoothing out many of the bumps and filling in repairs. Many riders noticed the difference this past weekend at the Elite State Championship race on Saturday and Sunday. We thank everyone who came out, raced, supported and enjoyed the weekend.
Wednesday race training. This Wednesday evening (June 18) from 7 to 9 pm we will have another fun race training session. A great time to come out, try some efforts and get ready for the Ride the Black Line series. Come get your flying-200 times clocked and recorded; they will be used for seeding the match sprints.
Ride the Black Line. The series starts June 25 and runs on June 25, July 9, July 23, August 6, August 20 and September 3. Come out for some fun races, show off your skills and pick up some new ones with your friends and fellow Encino family. Riders must be certified at Encino before racing, with a current annual release form on file, so come get certified as soon as you can.
Beginner and certification classes. We have added extra sessions to help new riders get ready for the series: June 20 at 7 pm, June 28 at noon, July 18 at 7 pm and July 26 at noon. Juniors still need a guardian signature on the release form before riding in the class.
SoCal Women's Track Series. Our good friend Tara has come up with a great event to support women's track racing. Points are earned by women riding permitted mass-start races at any SoCal velodrome (Encino, the VELO in Carson, or San Diego), with points for placing and, above all, for participation. There are bonus points for racing at more than one velodrome in a week, and a lot of points for racing all three. There will be a junior winner, a masters winner and an overall podium three deep, with winners' jerseys for all three categories.
Engine 11. We had a great club day for Engine 11 on April 27. A new group of riders came, learned and had a great time.
The motorcycle. We wish to thank our continued supporters and friends. We have received our new motorcycle for motor-pacing and have already started to use it. Many thanks to those who were able to help.
Women's track session. The ladies-only Saturday afternoon sessions at 1 pm have been showing a good turnout. Rental bikes and helmets are available if needed.
