Motor-pacing
Why we ride behind the motor.
A rider tucked behind a motorbike sits in its slipstream and can hold a speed that would be impossible alone, which is exactly the point. Racing is decided at speeds you cannot reach in training by yourself, so the motor takes you there and lets your legs learn what it feels like to turn the pedals at 55 km/h and above. It also teaches the two skills every track race is built on: holding a wheel at speed, and holding your line in the banking when it counts.
Encino runs motor-paced sessions several times a week, led by Henry Shibata, who has been pacing riders here for years. It is included in the Monday structured session and available in open sessions by request.
