Barry Wolfe Memorial Omnium presented by BT Bikes and Auzzie Track Club

May 28, 2005 · Encino Velodrome

The race report the club posted at the time, from its website as archived. Results for this night.

We had 70 entries for the Barry Wolfe Memorial Omnium! This is the best attendence I've seen in the last year and really a nice way to pay tribute to Barry Wolfe. What really makes me happy is the quality of the fields keep improving. Folks, the racing has been f-f-f-fast at all levels! If we keep this up, we'll have a REAL racing program. And equally encouraging, we had a good number of spectators in the stands.

Age ain't no excuse. Perennial fastman Butch Stinton (50+) won the 1/2/3 overall Omnium. Despite contesting both the Junior and 1/2/3 Omniums, Jared Downing (Junior) won the 1/2/3 points race by taking TWO laps!

Scott Gadberry inspired all as he continues his work toward making the US Paralympic track team. Not only did he do the AM time-trials, but he also competed in the Cat. 4/5 Omnium.

We had 21 Juniors racing. We need to keep this momentum going because they ARE the future of our sport. Please, encourage the Juniors you know to come race the track.

A BIG thanks to Dale Goodman, BT Bikes and Auzzie Track Club for sponsoring this event (their second of the year). Show your gratitude by shopping with our sponsors!

Before I get to the results, a reminder that next weekend is the Junior State Championships hosted by club Encino Velo. Our next Omnium event is June 18th when Veloworx and Veloworx Racing present the Wes Wehmiller Memorial Omnium. Guaranteed $500 in cash plus primes. See the schedule page for more details on both events. And keep an eye on our calendar because we're adding more events.

With many "race of truth" devotees competing at the State TT Championship our AM time-trial attendence for "all you can eat" time-trialing in the morning was a bit light. These sessions are purely for fun and practice since they don't count toward the Omnium. Racers of all abilities are encouraged to come out next time we run this format ( Omnium C format ). We'll be adding more race dates to the calendar!
